Days ago our friends came for holiday in Germany. But instead of having good time with Hermann, bratwurst and old buildings, they were busy arrange hotel, flight for next day destination. So almost half of time wasted for browsing internet in the D-Day of holiday. We can avoid this situation when we plan our holiday trip in advance. Some people especially single wanderer or backpacker are more flexible in looking or changing accommodation. But when you go traveling with family and don't want to have trouble with full-booked hotel or bad time flight, then its always recommended to be well prepared. And here are few simple tips from me, hope it helps! 1. Knowing the date when you like to go. Beside for transportation and accommodation's need, this also useful to decide what kinda clothes you have to bring i.e thick jacket or tank top. 2. Do research of the transportation. Some people like to take long journey train, even bus and some people don't. Book your flight/ train/ bus/ ship in advance is better. Take more attention for budget airlines because they have some more additional rule, i.e Ryan Air has certain size of checked baggage. They will have a kinda frame where you can put your bag in, if your bag doesn't fit in it, it means oversize. 3. Do research of what you like to do-to see in the destination city. Check your flexibility of time and location. 3. After knowing what you like to see, you will have something in your mind of where you like to sleep. Book your hotel/ bed and breakfast in advance. Its not fun when you just arrive in destination, then you still have to search for hotel. I know, if you go to a place where you never been before, its quite risky to book hotel in advance cos you don't know how good is the hotel is (this sentence doesn't apply for famous hotel i.e Hilton, Four Seasons, Conrad, etc :D), that's why tripadvisor.com is my best friend. This is my order to booking hotel: a/ browsing hotel in internet, search for the perfect price and location (i.e city center, suburb, close to the lake, etc). b/ after get some results, I will check one by one in tripadvisor, reading what people's experience with the hotels and take the best review c/ book online 4. Make sure all booking papers are already inside your bag when you're leaving. Gute Reise!
| | Not a dream and we were not in a rush! But of course it's only in Mini Europe Brussels, Belgium.
I couldn't find my Mini Europe guide book, so I just write down what I remember :) Enjoy! |
| | At Dec 26th we tried to get a luck if in Emsdetten city center all shops are already open. But no, its not open still. Everybody still on Christmas holiday. So this time we or better I, tried to have a luck with playing ice skating. But well...when in almost two hours you cannot sliding fast like a flash yet, then its time to give up hehe...
So we back to city center just to take some pics cos in the early evening the lights started to on and the sky still blue. |
| | Jamie Cullum said: "Will you let me romanticize...The beauty in our London Skies...You know the sunlight always shines...Behind the clouds of London Skies..."
Yeah right, the sun was shining behind the London sky which couldn't reach me :( London was our last trip after Ireland and Scotland. So to be honest, I felt exhausted already and London sky didn't cheer me up. I even ran out the mood to take pics nor visit some stunning places ( I missed the crack earth exhibition in Tate!)
But I was really in a good condition to catching the GIANT EGG in the center on London! Daniel said he never knew that I'm egg addicted! Hehehe...
So...I'm not that proud of these, but yeah here are London pics! |
| | This time we just took hop off- hop on tour bus cos we're not sure the distance between one place to other ones. Was a great idea since we didn't have plenty of times.
And yes, Edinburgh is bloody beautiful! |
| | We were blessed! Sky was terrible blue when we were there!
And we had giant breakfast menu; giant egg and giant pastry lolz! |
Kilkenny is a small city, 3 hours from Dublin by bus with around 9000 population (2006). First beside Dublin I’d like to go to Galway but somehow every times I did reservation hotel/ bed n’ breakfast in Galway, its always full book. So I turned to Kilkenny. At least I know about Kilkenny beer and had a thought that perhaps Trey Parker and Matt Stone created Kenny character in South Park after base on this Kilkenny city (I mean the name hehe…).
We arrived at Kilkenny around 1pm. Helen, the owner of Pinecrest bed n’ breakfast which I book by email said I can call her when I arrived in bus stop so she can pick us up. But unfortunately that day she has problem with her phone so we couldn’t contact her. And the worst was that the address of Pinecrest is without house number (its common in Kilkenny). Its only mention, Pinecrest – Bishop Meadow, Kilkenny. So daniel and I quite dazzled and puzzled. But people in bus station were nice, the information guy, the ticket guy, the guys who just standing outside tried to help us as much as they could. So finally we got clue and moved forward to Pinecrest. We walked. No public transport in Kilkenny cos its bloody small city. So yes…we walked with those big bags. Helen’s son greeted us nicely. We had hot coffee, cookies and nice room. Pinecrest is much-much better than our B n’ B in Dublin. Minutes later, Helen and husband, Liam came from shopping and we had chit-chat with them. It was very nice to meet them. And Liam, of course showed Daniel some stunning Irish Bar. John Cleere Bar is one of them. It’s a red color bar with Irish music. The bar looked solemn from outside but its fun inside. The two bartender were friendly and it was quite a lot tourist in the bar. All of them, including us, like to listen to irish music and sing along together (no, not me :p). Somehow I couldn’t find Kilkenny beer there. I asked the bartender and she said, beside more expensive than other brands, Kilkenny also taste ugly. Hm, well…
We stayed 2 days in Kilkenny. Kilkenny is small city with rich heritages to visit. Cathedral St. Canice is my favorite. But Kilkenny Castle, St Mary Cathedral also stunning. Walking around the city also enjoyable. When I'm in Dublin I feel like tourist, when I’m in Germany I feel like stranger…but when I’m in Kilkenny, I feel like home! Definitely will visit again one-day :)

| | Kilkenny Castle and Design Center are in the same street, right in the opposite each other. But in fact Design center is more like shops which selling everything in high price in the name of art :) |
| | After visited Guinnes Brewery, we walked to Kilmanhaim Gaol which is in fact quite far (again, we misinterpret the map! lolz). But never mind...we got something to see all the way there.
Kilmainham Gaol (http://www.explore.ie/ireland/article.php?ID=107) was a huge prison built in 1796 which played big role in Irish history. Now the building is a museum under International heritage. When we were there, we got an expert guide which told us which important people were there and what kinda of execution they got. Somehow now Marie Antoinette flashing in my mind hm...
Btw some movies had been filmed in this jail; The Italian Job (1969), In the Name of the Father ( 1993), Michael Collins (1996), and Boondock Saints (1999) |
| | I dont beer, but I put Guinnes Store House Dublin in my visit list. Guinnes is a famous old beer by Irish man and dont forget also about the yearly Guinness Book of Records. So, as mentioned in the official website (http://www.guinness-storehouse.com/), its so worth to visit this huge brewery. We really took times there and we got free beer...but again, I dont beer. |
| | Last weekend Daniel, Holger, Dagmar and I went to Netherlands. The idea was go to the beach to get some tan. So of course beside chips and strawberry cake, bikini plus sunblock were in our bag :))
After around 3 hours in the car, we stopped in Veere, a historical city which famous as a favorite haunt of artist. No wonder, cos its nice view there...Views of lake, river and fancy shops of course. Daniel got amazed with some canon balls and insist to take picture with it. Euh...I don't. I have enough canon ball in Indonesia, left by Dutch! Hehe...
After Veere, we continued to Domburg, where the beach in.Domburg was only around 14 km from Veere. After lunch and window shopping (it reminds me to Kuta, but of course its different:p), we took our bags to the beach. Good that we found blanket in Holger's car cos the weather report was damn lying. Its bloody cold and windy instead of 29 celcius degree of sunny day! So bikini, stay in the bag bitte...
It was a really nice trip except the springrolls I ate somewhere near the beach. It didn't well cooked, but luckily we were not that hungry to complain :p
Back to Kerpen, raining hard and lighting along the way but we got home safely and happy, yay!

Finally I’m back fresh again after got jet lag. Yesterday arrived at Jakarta at 2pm and after ate a huge portion of nasi padang (damn yum yum!) I fall asleep at 8pm at my beloved bed. But at 11pm I awoke and couldn’t sleep again till 04.30 after had eat for sahur. From Muscat to Jakarta, its only passenger in the plane; me, Gwen (a French girl who will get married with Indonesian badminton player this December), 4 foreigners guy and the rest are TKW. The good thing was that each person can have two or three seats for themselves but the bad things were; it was turbulence the whole way from Muscat to Jakarta, so we really 8 hours had to keep the seat belt. It almost made all people got airsick Another the bad thing, and this is the worst thing, I guess…are the group of TKW. They are nice, always smile and looked so happy to back home again. But well…I noticed, every times TKW on the plane, the toilet always bloody dirty and the floor under their seats always full of garbage. I think before they went to abroad for work, they would get a kind of education how to live and work abroad as maid. What for do and for don’t. But maybe the organization that sent them to abroad forgot to teach them how’s the manners on the plane. When the plane took off and landing, it’s always difficult (very difficult!) for air attendant to make them fold the table, used the seat belt, close the window, etc. Even one of the stewardesses spoke bahasa, it wasn’t really help. Most of the TKW were stubborn. They opened again the seat belt when the air attendance away. Opened the table, close the window…euh! Only watched them make me stress already. No wonder if the air attendance face suddenly turned to ugly when they saw the group came the plain hehe…
| | Tiring but lots fun! Visit 4 resorts in a day; The Bay Villas-Tanjung Lesung, Umang Island, Mutiara Carita, and Lippo Carita Resort |
My weekend was superb. Went for resorts hopping around west of Jakarta with friends. Started from Apartment Taman Anggrek Sunday 7.30 am. Our first destination was The Bay Villas at Tanjung Lesung. We were there for took a break for rest our legs and lunch. A welcome dance cheered us after the 3.5 hours trip from Jakarta. The hotel is nice but I don’t know it was quite quiet. But hm…they have cool honeymoon package :) One thing little bit annoying for us was the lunch menu at that time was not so good. Couldn’t eat a lot and went away from Bay Villas with still hungry stomach. After had a rest for around 2 hours, we departed to Umang Island. It took another 2 hours till we arrived to the small seaport to cross to Umang Island with traditional ship (jukung). The area around the seaport was almost nothing. After a boring view all the way there, it’s really hard to get a great cookies or even battery alkaline for my cam. Quite disappointing cos it supposed to be lots of needs from people who like to cross to the Umang Island resort. With jukung ship, it only took 5 minutes to cross the sea to Umang Island. And when we landed…Phew! It was awesome! Right away after took a welcome drink and some snacks, me and Rika jumped to the sea for snorkeling. We were lucky cos even its almost dark but we can see the corals cos it wasn’t so deep. The corals was much better than in Nusa Dua, but the water, in Nusa Dua is much much clean! We stayed in this island for a night. The view is ace, the environment is awesome, the crews are cool and the food was superb. After snorkeling and swimming (sometimes it’s necessary to break doctor’s rules when it’s urgent!) we went for dinner and blended to another group that had company gathering there for karaoke and joget dangdut. (Excuse me, but beside outbound activities and karaoke, no other entertainment here! And I don’t call spa as an entertainment!) Around 10pm I already jumped to bed. Bloody tired! But…hm...somehow I couldn’t sleep well. The wind was so heavy there and it so noisy….and the horror of tsunami was playing around in my head even all people of the resort told us the area is safe for tsunami and stuffs like that. So finally I woke up too early. Enjoyed the awesome sunrise, swim a little bit and walked around to take pictures. There was a strange feeling when I wandering in a small island, which owned by a private! Hui!!! When I bought a hi fi system, somebody else bought an island! Damn! But seriously, the island was dazzling. It’s not that big so we can walk around to all the part of the island and finish it less than one hour without run. And they have yummi honey moon package as well :) The bad thing is only one; it’s too far from Jakarta. And we only can go there with car through the difficult boring street (off the record: I often got car sick, but not this weekend :)) With same kind of resort, I can fly to Bali only for 1.5 hours! But, yes of course, the resort is not in a private island like Umang :) Left Umang Island at Monday 11.30am and we reached the next destination; Mutiara Carita resort for lunch at 2pm. I think this destination was the greatest one. Same facilities and views as Umang, even closer from Jakarta! (but yeah, not in private island) And…and…the food was really really really awesome! Point 9 from total 10! :D I think I can delete The Villas Bay and Umang from my honeymoon list and add this Mutiara Carita :) If in Umang Island we met the owner, in Mutiara Carita we met some managers and they’re nice! They took us to traditional fish market around the beach. But we were not that lucky. Not much fish we can see there. So after sightseeing around on that 11-hectare resort, we drove again and stopped again for coffee break in Lippo Carita Resort. (Awh...do not protest! We were doing resorts hopping! Of course a lot of resorts we had to visit! :)) The funny one was that Mutiara Carita and Lippo Carita is not that far but we already wanted to have snacks :p In Lippo Carita Resort, besides having coffee and some snacks, we jumped to the water again for banana boat and jet ski. Whoa! Totally wet and fun! Without this water sport, Lippo Carita resort will be damn boring I guess. It’s just a looong condominium all along the beach with flat architecture.
At 5.30 pm we started to leave the place. The journey must end. We went home with salty lips, dark skins (I didn’t overcome my ugly skin from last Bali trip! And now add more problem! Huii!!), rasta hair and a believe that all beaches around west Java are fine and safe. We talked a lot with all resorts crews and they convince us that (even the meteorology organization said so) maybe yeah there were (or will be) earthquake but no tsunami. We should have a happy feeling about that. People will keep coming to the beach and people who already live there won’t live with tsunami horror lingering them. With happy feeling I arrived Jakarta :) the pics are here
Brazil will play against Australia today, and of course I hold Brazil for this. I'm not a fan of Brazil but compare to Australia??? I even bought Brazil t-shirt for the game tonight. Me and my boyfriend will wear it and watch fussball in Australian club in Bali hehehe... I hope we won't get trouble later
Saturday now. Still have 2 days more of holiday. I was quite 'busy' during my holiday since last Thursday. Wednesday night went to Cinnabar with some colleagues and continue to Nu China. Thursday morning, still hangover but rushy went to Mangga Dua by TransJakarta with Ana and Theo. It's my second time go with TransJakarta and it was still fun! :)) And its my first time to go to Mangga Dua. Euh..Bloody crowded and pretty tiring. Why people love to shop there eh? Thursday night met some olds friends in Jl. Jaksa till morning. Then miss Beth damn exhausted on Friday...But couldn't stay at home cos I had appointment with my sister. Went there with 2 big pans of pizza to overcome her madness cos I always canceled my appointment with her before hehehe...At my sister, after said hello to everybody then I fall asleep in d couch. Not that bad, 2 hours and I'm fit again! Tonight will go out to celebrate Ewi's b'day. Hmm..I didn't buy anything for her yet. Hmm....Apa ya...hmm......

QUIET BALIAt work again. In Jakarta city. Had great time in Bali but yeah…Bali is not the same anymore (yet). Last time I went to Bali was on last September and now, after the second bomb, Bali is really different from the last time I came here. So quiet. Still there are some tourists there but well…not that much. Arrived at Kuta 29 Dec around 10pm and it was hard to get ordinary dinner in Poppies Lane 2 at that hour cos most the restaurants were closed. It used to be so many people walking, said hi each others or some Australian guys sitting and drinking in front of Circle K or around Kori café in Poppies 2 but that night…none. The hotel I stayed was so quiet also. Maybe only 10 rooms were filled and most of them were local tourist. This is my third time stayed in Palm Garden, but yeah…this is the emptiest quiet time I ever had here. After dinner (finally found resto with VERY limited menu and zero taste) me and Ewi decided to go back to hotel and sleep. We had rough day at work before. Tired. And quiet Bali really bother me :( SIR ELTHON JOHNThe next day, Friday 30 Dec after did some shopping, a friend I know since September (or is it August?) Vincent, and his friend Romuald picked us for dinner. I forgot the name of the resto but it’s near the location of Bali bomb 2 in Kuta Square. The food was dazzling. I'm glad that our French friends love soto and sop buntut goreng hehe... After dinner we went to Hard Rock center stage and we met Elton John there. He just married and got honeymoon in Bali. It was cool, he’s a really nice guy. Had few chit-chat with him. I think he’s a really down to earth person. He didnt mind to come to our table, talked so smooth, patiently and always answer all the questions even it’s the odd ones hehe…Got picture with Sir Elton John, but still waiting Vince to send it to me. BOMB PARANOIASaturday, me and Ewi had several dreams; snorkeling, parasailing and Jimbaran. But then a bomb news shocked us out. It was in Palu and we’re pretty worry about Bali as well. Ewi tried to get information from her TV station and Thx god Bali seemed fine. But another problem was euh…the weather was so bad. The sky was so dark and easily raining even sometimes the sun peeked for one or two minutes. Finally we just stayed in swimming pool till around 5pm. But its not so bad, I got free swimming lesson from three teachers hehe…One of them even a real swim teacher somewhere in France. But having too much teachers had made me confuse. Everybody wanted to teach me with different method...euh... KISSED THE DJSaturday, 31 Dec, 11 pm we started to move out from hotel. Our first destination was Fuel, my fave resto and lounge but this time I didn’t have any plan to have dinner in Fuel (even the pad thai is so yummi but mamma, I was full), just wanted to drink and enjoy the Goodnight Electric performance. Goodnight Electric is an electronica band with tree DJs and all of them are vocalist as well. Angga(omleo), our friend from college is one of them. Before Goodnight Electric started their perfomance, there was a cool DJ with a very Mike music. I mean he’s music was just like Mike’s music. Bartender said he’s from German…no wonder then. Maybe in German deep house is ruling. The DJ kept looked at me from his table and I was quite happy with that hehe…Ewi even pushed me to get him drink! But when he’s finish his performance…mamma mia…he walked to his girlfriend who sat three meters from me. Damn! Goodnight Electric was awesome. I can’t explain what their music exactly. I think it mix between eighties music, electronic, Depeche Mode and very dance music with cool performance of the members. Simple words; great tunes to keep you move your legs! Point 8.5! Pass the 00.00 in Fuel with free flow illusion and plastic trumpet around. That night was also the 1st celebration of Fuel, so its really cool. Unfortunately we cant stay longer in Fuel cos our (my) main destination was Double Six. Kissed DJ Angga bye. Around 1.30 am arrived in Double Six. Double Six was full. Usually me always come to Déjà vu and Paparazzi first before 66, but that night straight to 66 seemed a good idea. Met Vince and Rom again there. The DJs were cool, the music was awesome…all great songs were there from Madonna’s till Randy Katana’s…I like the way you move!! Really cant stop dance till dawn. Met the twinz as well but Justin is in UK since bomb 2. His club was not so crowded after that. But if only Justine here, he will be happy that on new year's eve 66 was bloody full! Met several stars like Steven Seagel, Aming, Najib Ali, etc. Aming was disaster! He wore backless kimono. Euh. Rom tried night bungy jump in 66. Scary for me. I prefer do paragliding or sky diving instead. The very deep swimming pool below also made me shiver. Me didn’t even want to sit near the pool. Eeww…But Rom did it pretty cool. He even did some capoiera style on the sky lolz Back to hotel around 10am, dinner, check out and moved to Vince’s hotel to waste the time cos our plane was 20.30 Bali time. It was really cool to spend New Year’s Eve in Bali. And was glad that nothing bad happened in bali. In fact my main destination beside Double Six was to come to DJ Riri’s gig in Kamasutra at 30 Dec…but I donno why...I didn’t want it anymore when I really get there hehehe…
Barely breathing. Got cold since this morning, but at least last night I had a really good sleep. Will fly to Bali this 5pm. Bit lazy in fact. Not because I got cold but since I got another plan for February I kinda regret my trip to Bali for new years. But well…return ticket already in my hand, some plans already set up and friends from Bali called me more than twice already euh. Well ok…Bali I’m coming! (at least DJ Riri is in Bali as well hehe…)
Bye byee..Happy New Year for all!!!
